President Nancy Campbell called the meeting to order at 7:03pm.
August Minutes: Jeanne Fair
Treasurers’ Report: Mary Wiginton presented the report. We have $27441.94 in the bank.
$18557.77 is for the columns.
New items to the report were for printing, donation to the church, SKNBC and the South Knoxville PTCA.
Mary asked about the fee for the surveyor. She has not paid him anything yet. It was discussed and we agreed we need to pay him something for all the time and effort he has put into this project for us.
A copy of the budget and transactions as well as the IHPNA Entrance & Column project was given to the board members.
Annual Meeting – Nancy Campbell
Nancy announced the annual meeting will be held on Thursday, October 18th at the Island Home Baptist Church beginning at 6pm.
Rebekah Jane Montgomery from the Urban Wilderness Gateway Park will give a presentation.
We will buy pizza from South Coast pizza. We will plan on about 40 people.
Island Home Park Halloween Party – Carolyn Williams
The party will be held in the backyards of the Williams’ and Scott’s. It will be held on Saturday, October 27th from 3pm-5pm. Matt and Juli Teglas are also helping with the event.
Fisher Place Columns – Nancy Campbell, Joe Hultquist, Bill Hahnemann
Joe and Bill met with Eddie Pruitt and Joe Touchton on the site. Thursday the footing work will begin.
Buddy Mulkey was told by the land owner the monument company has to move so Buddy will have to do the stone work on-site. IHPNA made the deal with Buddy Mulkey and not the name Island Home Monument Company which has been sold. The move and the sale of the name has made this very confusing.
The Executive committee can approve the payment to the surveyor which was done during the treasurers’ report.
Nancy Campbell, Joe Hultquist and Michael Jordan will be representing us on SKNBA.
Meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday of the month with the places moving to different sites.
Herman Weaver, who helped spearhead getting a grant and making Welcome Bags for new neighbors, has the bags made and ready. They are very nice. We will get 5 for IHPNA and Nancy had one to show us. We may consider making our own at a later date.
SKNBA, which includes 9 neighborhoods, and the South Knoxville Alliance will conduct candidate forums.
Parking from Riverside Apartments – The overflow parking from the apartments has moved into Island Home Park. This has created a problem for the resident who lives right inside the pillars as her driveway is often blocked. On Mondays, the circle of cars often blocks the BFI truck from accessing her trash cans. We need to advise her to call 911. Police are issuing tickets to cars parked in the bicycle lanes. Brad, the Apartment Manager, is trying to work with us to alleviate the parking problems.
Halloween Nigh – We will pay the $160.00 to have the bicycle policeman.
Neighbor to Neighbor – Connie Vogt is our liaison for Neighbor to Neighbor. We are concerned about one of our neighbors on Maplewood Drive. The SCAN organization will make a contact to do a wellness check.
Another neighbor has been helped informally. Please let Connie know if anyone in Island Home Park is in need of assistance.
Thefts in Island Home Park – Most of the thefts are crimes of opportunities – unlocked cars and bikes. Steven Horton will send out a list of ways to protect your property and to help people avoid being a victim of theft. Neighborhood Watch signs are of little or no value.
Dogwood Arts Bazillion Blooms – The Dogwood Arts committee is selling small, bare root trees – 5 for $100. These will grow well in our area. Order through their website.
Vulcan Blasting – We have 4 seismographs and all are under the limit for every blast. The blasts are annoying but Vulcan is operating within the legal limits.
Airport Tree Trimming – Sherry Self is working with us on this but Nancy has not had an update. Cortese is the tree trimming company hired to do the work.
What’s Happening in Island Home Park and South Knoxville:
Knoxville SOUP – This is a group fund raising for projects submitted by individuals or groups. You do not need to be a non-profit to submit a project. The next SOUP dinner is scheduled for
Tuesday, October 23rd at 6:00pm. The cost is $5.00 which includes the meal and one door prize ticket. Additional door prize tickets can be purchased.
ReCode Knoxville – Round 3 on October 25th at South Doyle Middle School.
Neighborhood Newsletter – Nancy forwards this to us each week. Please look through it to be aware of things happening in the neighborhoods in Knoxville. The city is currently looking for information about neighborhood speeding and the Chapman Highway Implementation Project.
New Business– Nancy Campbell
We will be making the $100.00 memorial donation to Ijams for the deceased neighbors of Island Home Park.
Michael Jordan said the airport is willing to offer us a tour of the facility during the day. If you are interested in joining the tour, please let Michael know.
Tree Decorating – Nancy will ask Patrick and Chris for the dates for the tree decorating and lighting.
Jessica Rodocker is working the Open Houses for December.
Next Meeting: Monday, January 14, 2019 7pm at TSD Akin Gym Health Room
Meeting Dismissed: 8:15pm
