Unable to Attend: Joanna Pennoyer, John Michael Scott, Jim Staub, Mary Wiginton, Carolyn Williams and Stephanie Welch-City Council.
President Nancy Campbell called the meeting to order at 6:35pm.
May Minutes – Jeanne Fair Corrections were made to the May minutes. Approved (Hahnemann/Vogt)
Treasurers’ Report – Mary Wiginton Mary sent the treasurer’s report showing we have $10614.88 in the bank that is available to use. Outstanding checks: $13,058.75. We have been very fortunate this year as many people paid additional dues to help with special events. Approved. (Jordan/Field)
Pillars Construction – Nancy Campbell/Bill Hahnemann The pillars are finished! We are so grateful to TN Marble for all their help with the marble and Allie Toyota for helping to unload the marble and place the last big pieces on the top of the pillars. We could not have completed this project with out their help. Thanks, also, to Island Home Baptist Church and Joe Hultquist for donating the land for the pillars. We did transfer $70.67 from Beautification to use towards paying off the costs. There was discussion about the extra marble – offer it to people who donated money on first come first served? We could ask TN Marble if they wanted it back. We need to get it moved before the Pillar Dedication if possible. The wood pallets need to be moved. We can notify the city and have the pallets picked up. We may need to do some work around the pillars but it needs to be SIMPLE because we don’t want to make work for the lawn company who takes care of the church yard. There is some asphalt on the front pillars but it was decided to leave it alone.
Elections for IHPNA – Nancy Campbell Cat, Carolyn, Casey and Nancy are on the nominating committee. They will send some information out on the List Serve to see if anyone else is interested in running.
Vulcan – Bill Hahnemann Bill Hahnemann will be meeting with Vulcan again Tuesday to make sure they know we are still here, still aware of the blasting and still monitoring the blasts. Bill reported the last few blasts have been weaker since they are going East/North East and not affecting us as much.
TSD Construction – Nancy Campbell The construction project has been postponed until January.
South Knoxville Neighborhood and Business Coalition – Joe There will be a grand opening for Suttree Landing Park on Saturday, August 24th from 2pm-6pm. All neighborhood in the SKNBC are invited to participate. On Friday, August 23rd, you can paddle with the mayor at 4pm. Uncle Lems will have demo boats to rent.
ReCode Knoxville – Stephanie Welch Stephanie said on Tuesday City Council will vote on the 2nd reading. There are Maps available to see how it will apply to Island Home Park. RN1 and RN2 are the primary zoning for Island Home Park. They want to bring lots into compliance. There are many concerns: lot sizes will be smaller; lot width for RN2 will be 75’; larger lots may have multiple housing units. We have not had a codes update since the 1950’s and they are outdated for today’s needs. The city it updating to mixed use, options for higher density and higher buildings with mixed use. ADU – Accessory Dwelling Units are controversial but will be permitted in every zone. There is an amendment to opt out of allowing ADUs in established neighborhoods. We know there were lots of problems with the South Waterfront Codes and are trying to avoid those same problems.
Website – Nancy Campbell We currently use IHPNA.net. Greg Brown owns at least 15 other names connected with Island Home Park. Kurt Zinser hosts our website on his private server. It is time to upgrade and get out from under Kurt and Greg. Mike Rodocker has agreed to run our website. We will work to find a new domain and host in on a different server.
July 4th – Nancy Campbell Our annual parade and picnic was a great success. Thanks to all the people who pitched in and helped. This is a big undertaking but if everyone does their small part it makes for a big success. We were very fortunate to have the Firetruck come to “cool down” the kids – both young and old.
Porch Hops – Nancy Campbell So far all the porch hops have been well attended and great fun and fellowship. Jessica hopes we can have one in October.
Dedication of the Pillars – Nancy Campbell A motion was made to have the dedication will be Saturday, September 7th at 10:00am. We will serve light snacks and water/juice/coffee. Nancy will send out the invitations to all donors and all companies who helped us as well as city officials. Passed – (Jordan/Hultquist)
